FRD partnered with UNWFP on the 'Food Assistance for Assets (FFA) Program' to uplift Mohmand district's food-insecure population through cash-based transfers, benefiting 3305 potential beneficiaries across 63 villages in Ambar and Pandialy tehsils. The project encompassed livelihood infrastructure rehabilitation, women's empowerment, eco-friendly initiatives, and local economic growth, successfully exceeding the target of women participants and fostering environment of peaceful coexistance
The project aims to enhance the learning environment in KPESEF schools by strengthening the management and leadership abilities of head teachers and officials, fostering improved problem-solving skills and situational responsiveness. This will be achieved through outcomes such as effective team and individual leadership, enhanced performance management, adept handling of challenging situations, promotion of innovation and continuous improvement, meaningful participation in critical discussions
The Land and Water Diplomacy Project, aligned with the EU-Strategic Engagement Plan, tackles communal ownership challenges of natural resources in tribal Pakistan, focusing on land and water. It employs dynamic diplomacy to empower locals, resolve disputes, and improve living conditions amidst political reforms integrating tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project trained mediators, resolved disputes, benefiting 800 households, and engaged youth through cultural and sporting events.
In 2022, the devastating floods in Pakistan impacted over 3 million people wih economic losses exceeding USD 30 billion. Educational facilities were severely affected, displacing families and adding psychological and social strains, particularly for children, especially girls, making the continuation of education a challenging decision. FRD, in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), is contributing through restoration of the schools providing psychosocial support & learning material
FRD, in collaboration with Helvetas Germany and with financial backing from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, is actively engaged in supporting small-scale women vegetable growers in the semi-urban regions of Peshawar. The aim is to enhance their productivity by offering necessary skills, tools, and facilitating the transition to advanced production technologies. Not only addresses climate change adaptation but also uplifts their nutrition status.
FRD In partnership with Human Development Activity Initiative of the New and Under Utilized partners program (USAID) is implementing a project on improving Mother and child health services and family planning services by the government health department and the Population welfare department Since September 2022 till September 2023. The project aims at improving the capacity of the facility based services providers and community based services providers on improving the quality of services
FRD In partnership with Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, and with Financial Support of World Bank in Pakistan, implemented the Project of Pakistan COmmunity Support Project (PCSP) as Social Mobilization partner in District Khyber. The project interventions were from July 2012 till September 2022, and FRD strengthened 110 Community based Organizations in the Corridor of Influence of CASA 100- (central Asia to South Asia 1000 megawatt power transmission)
FRD is in the process of initiating a Project called "Locally led humanitarian solutions: Building resilience in fragile contexts affected by climate change" The project will build on the local capacities for resilience and advocacy efforts to enhance understanding and risk informed action planning through an inclusive approach
A young Individual Philanthrope Mr. Shehryar Khan Tarand Supported FRD in Distributing 75 layer poultry birds among 3 poorest households in July 2024. The project is an attempt to integrate the Kitchen gardening with backyard poultry farming. FRD is already working in these peri urban areas on the climate smart agriculture and the addition of a new livelihoods strategy to these poor households will make their livelihoods more resilient as a result of diversification.

The COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, caught everyone off guard. Dealing with a pandemic of this magnitude necessitated swift and concise responses from all sectors. FRD, as a conscientious humanitarian organization, played a vital role in refining the Standard Operating Procedures for various pertinent government departments. In the early days of the outbreak, FRD, with the support of Helvetas and the European Union, supplied personal protective equipment to the district administration
The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in millions losing their jobs. In collaboration with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), FRD persisted in delivering conditional cash support in vulnerable zones of District Mohmand and Kurram. The work approach for conditional cash grants was adapted with a paramount focus on safeguarding staff and beneficiaries to curb infection spread. Stringent adherence to social distancing and other necessary precautions was maintained throughout the process.
In addition to implementing cash-based programs in areas with functional markets and easy commodity access, FRD collaborated with the World Food Program on conditional food support initiatives in areas with non-functional markets. This dual approach aimed to address various scenarios effectively. Smallholders, returning internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable households engaged in rehabilitation projects, significantly enhancing their long-term livelihoods.
FRD partnered with the UNDP Rule of Law Program to execute the "Women-Friendly Policing and Access to Justice Program" from January to September 2019 in Districts Charsadda, Mardan, Abbottabad, and Haripur. This initiative revitalized model police stations, organized legal aid clinics, and offered free legal advice and pro bono legal support to women and girls in need of protection under the pro-women laws of KP.
FRD in Partnership with Pakistan Humanitarian Pool fund (CBPF) Managed by UNOCHA facilitated the returnee Temporarily Dislocated persons TDP in 2018-2019.
The areas were stabilized after a long conflict and the absence of maintenance and collateral damages during the conflict left thousands of people homeless. Upon their return FRD in partnership with the UNOCHA and overall guidance of the Government disaster Management authorities implemented this ogram of shelter rehabilitation.
FRD in Partnership with World Food Program implemented this Project in District Orakzai in 2018 and 2019 where conditional cash transfer and conditional food transfers were used to support the returnee TDPs rebuild their livelihoods and rehabilitate their productive assets.
The project helped the returnee TDPs reintegrate in their areas of origin and bringing a sense of normalcy.
FRD in Partnership with World Food Program implemented this Project in District Kurram, again supporting the returnees and stayees to rehabilitate their productive assets and also contribute to peaceful coexistence and social cohesion in fragile context.
The project had been part of bigger programs by The United Nations World |Food program, government of Pakistan and broader humanitarian community of Pakistan. The project was implemented in 2018 and 2019 in Upper lower and central Kurram
With he return of a big number of TDP to district Kurram FRD in Partnership with Country based Pool funds managed by UNOCHA in Pakistan implemented this project from July 2018 to December 2019, to enable the returnees have access to permanent houses in a cold weather.
The participator beneficiary selection backed by use of online banking services enabled the returnees build back their own houses
FRD in Partnership with Rule ofLaw Program of UNDP implemented this project in district Kohat from November 2014 to August 2018 with few small breaks, and the project specifically worked with vulnerable communities, women and refugees in having free of cost access to formal courts, carrying out information dissemination on the rights guaranteed under the constitution of Pakistan and UDHR.

FRD under the country strategic plan of World Food Program implemented the conditional food transfer tot eh returnee IDPs in district Kurram, where the rehabilitation of access roads, irrigation channels, land reclamation, skill development activities and environmental protection activities were implemented by the local communities in return for the food package of 85 Kgs, which is sufficient for one month for a household of 5 persons against a 12 days working cycle
FRD in partnership with Intercooperation (later on Helvetas) and funding from Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) implemented multi year program (Livelihoods Program Hindukush-LPH) from July 2011 till September 2016.
In the 5 years program in addition to implementing the livelihoods programs in 2 valleys of Mohmand, FRD also established Non formal education schools for out of school children, worked on skills development, diagnostic study on coriander and value chain management.
FRD in Partnership with Refugees Affected Hosting areas (RAHA) Program of UNHCR during 2015-2016 Rehabilitated the Operation Theater, and Laboure Room of the Gynae Block of Lady reading hospital as well as nursery of the Pediatric block of Lady reading hospital, the biggest tertiary care hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
To make the health service delivery in a conducive environment the social mobilization and hygiene promotion sessions were also carried out with the attendant of Patients.
in Partnership with the KP Local Government and Rural Development Department and funding from USAID FRD implemented this Gender responsive municipal services delivery program from October 2015 to December 2016. The program focused on Urban UCs, and slums of Peshawar city, thereby working on social mobilization, youth engagement, increasing collaboration between the locally elected representatives, communities and municipal services delivery company WSSP.
FATA institutional strengthening program was a USAID funded program that worked closely with FATA Secretariat. The program invested in improving the capacity of Lady health workers and FRD had been the partner of the program from January 2017 to July 2017 for Mohmand and Khyber districts in carrying out he baseline a well as endline survey of the performance of the LHWs, and perceptions of the communities on immunization, nutrition and other public health related aspects
The conflict situation in district Orakzai and Kurram temporarily displaced thousands of families many of whom settled in IDPs cam Togh Sarai, and New Durrani while many opted to stay with hosting communities in other places. After the areas of origin were declared safe for return by the government of Paksitan, FRD in Partnership with PHPF/CBPF (UNOCHA) supported the returnee IDPs families n reconstruction of their houses which were damaged due to lack of regular maintenance/conflict
FRD in partnership with UNICEF carried out the monitoring and validation of the multiple indicators cluster survey implemented by the KP Bureau of Statistics across all the districts of the Province from November 2016 to April 2017.
The focus of monitoring and validation had mainly upon the data collection process in the field, while the samples of the survey were statistically derived from the previous census reports and data present with Pakistan and KP bureau of statistics
FRD in Partnership with UNHCR Pakistan (September 2016 to March 2017) carried out rehabilitation of Refugees schools in Peshawar, Swabi, Kohat and other refugee villages across KP, while also working with the returnee Refugees in the voluntary repatriation centers Chamkani and Aza Khel by providing a conducive environment during the transit of the refugees. In addition to the site maintenance FRD also entertained the refugee kids with little refreshments, clean drinking water and hygiene
FRD in Partnership with UNHCR Pakistan Program on Refugees Affected Hosting areas worked on the strengthening of the Basic health units in Mansehra and Kohat during 2016-2017. Under the project in addition to provision of missing facilities like labour room, toilets, water supply, FRD also worked with the communities on social mobilization and improving the indicators of the public health.
The social mobilization also addressed the issue of increasing the sense of ownership among communities
FRD in Partnership with UNHCR Pakistan Program on IDPs accompanied the returnee IDPs upon their return to Kurram and Orakzai agencies from April 2016 to September 2016.
In addition to carrying out Humanitarian needs assessment, FRD with support from UNHCR provided emergency shelter and Non Food items package to the returnees to enable them restart their normal life back in the areas of their origin.
More than 12,000 Households got support under this project
FRD and the UN Agency for Population (UNFPA) implemented the initial service package for the returnee TDPs in Maula Khan Sarai Category D Hospital and 4 periphery health facilities from February 2016 till July 2016 with CERF Funding. Under the project Qualified reproductive health workers and doctors were deployed in the hospitals and health facilities to Provide Basic Emergency Obstetric Care, Anti natal & post natal care, maternal and early childhood nutrition and Family Planning support
FRD and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) jointly started the community restoration and social cohesion project in Bara Khyber Agency (January 2016 -July 2016) to facilitate the return of IDPs in their areas of origin in Bara. The project worked with the communities on restoration of the community infrastructure and reducing the risk of social tensions by facilitating the communal mechanisms of social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
Foundation for Rural Development (FRD) had been Monitoring the UNCIEF programs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from September 2015 till the end of June 2017. all UNICEF Programs on Water Sanitation, Education, Child Protection, MNCH and nutrition were monitored.
The Entire KP Programs including Humanitarian, recovery and development were monitored and regular follow up and debrief were provided both to UNICEF as well as its implementing partners for different programs.

FRD provided technical monitoring and evaluation support to the UNHABITAT Shelter and WASH Program in Bannu, D.I. Khan, Laki Marwat districts for the IDPs of North Waziristan from April 2015 till August 2015. The contribution of FRD had been validation of the beneficiaries, implementation of the project and ensuring that quality standards are met in the emergency shelter as well as water and sanitation programs being implemented by UNHABITAT.
FRD in Partnership with UNHCR IDPs program facilitated the re-integration of returnee IDP in south Waziristan in their Area of Origin through assisting with the provision of emergency and transitional shelters, Non food items and enabling them to have access to a shelter space according to Sphere standards and protection standards of UNHCR. (Mar-2015-June 2015)
The Field team of FRD supported the broader Humanitarian community as well in carrying out humanitarian needs assessment of the returnee
With the stabilization of security situation in Khyber Agency thousands of families returned to their areas of origin in Tehsil Bara in Khyber Agency. FRD in Partnership with UNHCR implemented this Humanitarian assistance project from March 2015 till June 2015, where the Rapid Needs Assessment (RNA) of the returnee IDPs were carried out, those that needed the life saving support in terms of shelter and NFIs were supported in getting a dignified place of living with their families
Pakistan had been hosting the Afghan refugees for more than 4 decades, and those Afghan refugees that get education in the hosting areas go to the same public schools as hosting communities. To Improve the Asylum space with in hosting country and rehabilitate some of the public services delivery infrastructure UNHCR started the Refugees Affected hosting areas (RAHA) program.
FRD in Partnership wit RAHA program facilitated rehabilitation of schools in Lahore and Rawalpindi (Feb 2015-August 2015)
The Security Situation in the border areas of Pakistan called FATA deteriorated from 2001 to 2010. As a result the government had to carry out military operations to re-establish the writ of government and displaced hundreds of thousands of families from different areas. These IDPs families setteled in different IDPs camps. FRD in Partnership with UNHCR provided camp Coordination and camp management services in Togh Sarai, Jalozai, New Durrani camps from March 2013 till December 2015
The Public education infrastructure in Pakistan had been a source of cohesion between refugees and hosting communities, however due to limited resources many of the schools in District Haripur and Mansehra could not get rehabilitated. FRD in Partnership with RAHA Program of UNHCR rehabilitated and rebuilt schools in Haripur and Mansehra districts (September 2014 March 2015). In addition to physical infrastructure , FRD also provided career guidance trainig to GHS Gandiyan Teachers.
FRD in partnership with German Agency International cooperation ( Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Implemented this project of learning management for the farmers in FR Peshawar /Hassan Khel on integrated farming practices from September 2014 to August 2015.
The project worked with local farmers on integrating livestock rearing, poultry farming and the agricultural practices on land, including introduction of new crops and new farming technologies.
FRD in partnership with UN Refugees Agency (UNHCR) Supported the IDPs from North Waziristan in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Peshawar with regards to facilitating their registration as IDPs by establishing Registration centers, provision of emergency Shelter, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Non Food items in the gosting communities from July 2014 to October 2014.
Support was provided in Host communities, government shelter places and public infrastructure strengthened for WASH.
FRD in partnership with the Pakistan Transition Initiative of IOM in Pakistan implemented this project for 40 semiskilled women in Wazir Bagh Union Council of Peshawar from January 2015 till May 2014.
40 Semi skilled women were identified jointly with the field staff of Peshawar Uplift Program (IOM), provided Training on Knitting the Woolen stuf, and training on small enterprise development.
On completion of the training all the 40 women were provided with hand rub knitting machines.
FRD partnered with the Multi Donor Trust fund Program, managed by World Bank in Pakistan with the name of Economic Recovery of KP and FATA (ERKF) from October 2013 till February 2014, where the Small and Medium enterprises by women in District Kurram and Mohmand were Mapped.
Knowledge sharing workshops were arranged for women, on getting support from the ERKP for revival and rehabilitation of their businesses.
Many of the women continued to be beneficiaries and participants in our other projects
FRD partnered with the RAHA Program of UNHCR with funding from Japanese Government (October 2013-February 2014) to work with youth from Refugees and Hosting communities in District Khyber along the Pak-Afghan Express way passing through Khyber and engage youth in sports and literary activities.
The project helped in rehabilitation of the sports grounds, arranging sports tournaments of Football, Cricket, badminton, painting competitions, and poetry recitation events focusing on theme of peace.
FRD partnered with the RAHA Program of UNHCR to rehabilitate Public schools, Improve learning environment and provide missing facilities in those schools of district Attock that in addition to hosting communities children provide opportunities of Education to refugees children. In addition to provision of infrastructure Support FRD also arranged make up classes for refugees children to improve their proficiency in Urdu language, which is the medium of instruction in these schools.
In August 2013 FRD entered an agreement with UNHCR to provide the identified needs of Water and Sanitation in the refugee villages as well as rehabilitate the infrastructure of refugee schools according to guidelines of UNHCR in Lower Dir, Haripur, Mansehra, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan Mardan, Swabi Refugees villages.
FRD was successful to achieve the target of rehabilitation and filling the gaps by December 2013.
Both the schools as well as communal facilities were rehabilitated.
In April 2014, FRD supported the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH /German Agency for International cooperation (GIZ) in carrying out the baseline study of District Mohmand, Potential target tehsils for designing their Livelihoods development Program.
FRD with the support of technical consultants from GIZ and own field teams collected the data and facilitated Focused group discussions and inpeth interviews in addition to survey.
FRD in Partnership with Danish Refugees council (DRC) worked in the refugees schools of Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi on promoting hygiene, and engaging children in Behavior change communication on hygiene in addition to distribution of hygiene kits.
The project was implemented in November and December 2012 with the support o the administrations from the CAR, RVAs and the school administrations.
The Housing structures in Kurram and Orakzai have evolved over hundreds of years, which is according to the climate conditions and specifically provides insulation from outside temperature. However these mud structures require regular maintenance. The long term conflict in the area, absence of routine maintenance and conflict damaged the infrastructure. FRD in Partnership with UNHCR supported thousands of returnees with shelter repair kits in Kurram and Orakzai from October 2012 till March 2013.
Despite the fact that Pakistan is not a signatory to 1951 refugees conventions and its later protocols, it has Generously hosted millions of refugees from Afghanistan and thousands of refugees from other context. The Afghan refugees lived in refugee villages as well as hosting communities. Under the RAHA Program of UNHCR with German funding FRD supported the hosting communities in Mohmand agency with solar power drinking water supply schemes in Tehsil Eka Ghund and Halimzai, (Nov 2012-Feb 2013)

The operation mainly supported the returnee families with kitchen sets, bedding material and other necessary non food items for meeting the basic non food items of the returnee families
Pakistan had been facing the climate change phenomenon for quite some time and increasing temperature in the summer months and heat waves take its toll. then the IDP families living in tents face the issue more severely as the layers of the tent catch up heat, and the cultural constraints of women make them suffer, because they generally avoid being in open air. FRD in partnership with UNHCR carried out construction of tent shelters in the biggest IDPs camp Jalozai (Jul-September 2012)
FRD in partnership with UNHCR and ECHO funding supported the returnee IDPs families in Kurram from March 2012 till September 2012. FRD and UNHCR provided the roofing kit (Girders, T Irons, and brick tiles for roof) one widow and one door and the returnee IDPs carried out the repair and rehabilitation of the walls with local material which is suitable according to the climate of the area.
This helped in avoiding secondary displacement and reducing vulnerability of returnees.
the 2010 floods lefts hundreds of thousand of people homeless. Many of the landless population were not allowed to go back and rebuild their houses o the previous owners lands, and therefore formed spontaneous camps around different places in Charsadda and Nowshehra from August 2010 till December 2011. FRD in partnership with UNHCR Protection unit identified philanthrope land owners, signed tenancy agreement for 10 years and constructed sustainable houses, WASH facilities and kitchens.
As the government declared multiple areas in Mohmand Agency safe for return, and a rapid assessment revealed that collateral damages from the conflict has destroyed hundreds of houses, and the people if not supported will face secondary displacement. FRD in partnership with UNHCR Identified vulnerable families and provided with roofing kit, window and door set, to help them rehabilitate at least one room in their house to start integrating themselves to their area of origin (Nov 2011-Jan 2012)
he 2010 floods in Pakistan damages significant infrastructure and the vulnerable rural communities faced specific challenges. FRD in Partnership with UNDP and funding from Italian government rehabilitated the community infrastructure, strengthened disaster risk reduction measures and rehabilitated the water sanitation and hygiene infrastructure from October 2011 till May 2012 in Union council of Gul Imam, which was the most difficult to reach after the floods of 2010.
The flood damages to housing in Peshawar and Nowshehra was significant. FRD in partnership with UNHCR and funding from the Japan Government supported provision of 1 permanent room shelter accompanied by 1 wash room and one kitchen to 1,743 families in district Charsadda.
The shelter incorporated Disaster risk reduction measures including better site election, raised plinth level, reinforcement of steel bars at teh critical points of the room and training on maintaining the shelter
FRD in Partnership with UNHCR established two IDPs camps i.e Nahqi and Danishkool. From the site planning and designing to site maintenance and camp coordination and camp management FRD had been the prime partner in these IDPS camps.
As the duration of displacement was not initially decided, as measure of Protection FRD provided cooked meals to IDPs as well for 20 days. The temperature controlling mechanism of Agronet was also tested in Nahqi IDPs camp in harsh summer conditions. (Feb -Nov 2011
