Foundation for Rural Development is a non-discriminatory, non-profit civil society organization established in 2006. FRD formally got registered with the department of social welfare Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, in June 2008. FRD.

FRD has been providing services to the poor community as part of humanitarian response in the phases of Emergency, early recovery, rehabilitation, and long term development in the sectors of Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Shelter/NFIs, Camp Coordination, and Camp management, Community infrastructure, Livelihood development, Non-formal education, and Natural resource management along with the Linkages development of grass-root communities with government and non-government agencies with a focus on community development and mobilization.
FRDs main target groups are the poorest and the poor segments. Still, being an inclusive organization, working to promote principles of harmony and peaceful co-existence within the society, FRD works with almost all socio-economic classes to establish open communication channels among various groups. FRD has been actively managing programs in erstwhile FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab regions of Pakistan.

IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE BACKWARD AREAS, BY IMPROVING THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF PEOPLE THROUGH EQUITABLE AND SUSTAINABLE UTILISATION OF RESOURCES AND EMPOWERING THE VULNERABLE AND WEAKER GROUPS” .
FRD has been working in the province of KP including the erstwhile FATA and Punjab Province. with interventions in different sectors that include education, health, livelihoods, food security, WASH, community development and empowerment, Climate change adaptation, women empowerment and youth engagement .
FRD has been in partnership with UNHCR, UNDP, UNWFP, UNICEF, UNOCHA, UNHABITAT and IOM. we also had been in Partnership with GIZ, Helvetas, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Local Government and Rural Development Department and Planning and Development department), Danish Refugees council, DAI, FATA capacity building project, ERKF-FATA , CRS and DRC

FRD partnered with UNWFP on the 'Food Assistance for Assets (FFA) Program' to uplift Mohmand district's food-insecure population through cash-based transfers, benefiting 3305 potential beneficiaries across 63 villages in Ambar and Pandialy tehsils. The project encompassed livelihood infrastructure rehabilitation, women's empowerment, eco-friendly initiatives, and local economic growth, successfully exceeding the target of women participants and fostering environment of peaceful coexistance
The project aims to enhance the learning environment in KPESEF schools by strengthening the management and leadership abilities of head teachers and officials, fostering improved problem-solving skills and situational responsiveness. This will be achieved through outcomes such as effective team and individual leadership, enhanced performance management, adept handling of challenging situations, promotion of innovation and continuous improvement, meaningful participation in critical discussions
The Land and Water Diplomacy Project, aligned with the EU-Strategic Engagement Plan, tackles communal ownership challenges of natural resources in tribal Pakistan, focusing on land and water. It employs dynamic diplomacy to empower locals, resolve disputes, and improve living conditions amidst political reforms integrating tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project trained mediators, resolved disputes, benefiting 800 households, and engaged youth through cultural and sporting events.
In 2022, the devastating floods in Pakistan impacted over 3 million people wih economic losses exceeding USD 30 billion. Educational facilities were severely affected, displacing families and adding psychological and social strains, particularly for children, especially girls, making the continuation of education a challenging decision. FRD, in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), is contributing through restoration of the schools providing psychosocial support & learning material
FRD, in collaboration with Helvetas Germany and with financial backing from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, is actively engaged in supporting small-scale women vegetable growers in the semi-urban regions of Peshawar. The aim is to enhance their productivity by offering necessary skills, tools, and facilitating the transition to advanced production technologies. Not only addresses climate change adaptation but also uplifts their nutrition status.
FRD In partnership with Human Development Activity Initiative of the New and Under Utilized partners program (USAID) is implementing a project on improving Mother and child health services and family planning services by the government health department and the Population welfare department Since September 2022 till September 2023. The project aims at improving the capacity of the facility based services providers and community based services providers on improving the quality of services
FRD In partnership with Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, and with Financial Support of World Bank in Pakistan, implemented the Project of Pakistan COmmunity Support Project (PCSP) as Social Mobilization partner in District Khyber. The project interventions were from July 2012 till September 2022, and FRD strengthened 110 Community based Organizations in the Corridor of Influence of CASA 100- (central Asia to South Asia 1000 megawatt power transmission)
FRD is in the process of initiating a Project called "Locally led humanitarian solutions: Building resilience in fragile contexts affected by climate change" The project will build on the local capacities for resilience and advocacy efforts to enhance understanding and risk informed action planning through an inclusive approach
The COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, caught everyone off guard. Dealing with a pandemic of this magnitude necessitated swift and concise responses from all sectors. FRD, as a conscientious humanitarian organization, played a vital role in refining the Standard Operating Procedures for various pertinent government departments. In the early days of the outbreak, FRD, with the support of Helvetas and the European Union, supplied personal protective equipment to the district administration
The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in millions losing their jobs. In collaboration with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), FRD persisted in delivering conditional cash support in vulnerable zones of District Mohmand and Kurram. The work approach for conditional cash grants was adapted with a paramount focus on safeguarding staff and beneficiaries to curb infection spread. Stringent adherence to social distancing and other necessary precautions was maintained throughout the process.
In addition to implementing cash-based programs in areas with functional markets and easy commodity access, FRD collaborated with the World Food Program on conditional food support initiatives in areas with non-functional markets. This dual approach aimed to address various scenarios effectively. Smallholders, returning internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable households engaged in rehabilitation projects, significantly enhancing their long-term livelihoods.
FRD partnered with the UNDP Rule of Law Program to execute the "Women-Friendly Policing and Access to Justice Program" from January to September 2019 in Districts Charsadda, Mardan, Abbottabad, and Haripur. This initiative revitalized model police stations, organized legal aid clinics, and offered free legal advice and pro bono legal support to women and girls in need of protection under the pro-women laws of KP.

FRD's, central focus lies on Livelihoods and Food Security. Our dedicated engagement with the Hinukush Livelihoods Program spanned from 2011 to 2016. Collaborating with the World Food Program, a noteworthy Livelihoods Revival project in 2015 that continues. Our multifaceted approach involved collaborations i.e. Peshawar Uplift Program & Multi Donor Trust Fund Project ERKFFATA, highlighting our comprehensive strategy covering On-Off & Non-farm livelihoods, contributing to sustainable development
FRD prioritizes high-quality education to address Pakistan's challenges. It has been an active participant in the education sector, enhancing teaching, counseling students, improving infrastructure, and fostering leadership. FRD's commitment extends to Education in Emergencies , aiding flood-affected DI Khan, showcasing its dedication to education as a resilient community cornerstone."
Pakistan ranks alarmingly high on the climate risk index, bearing the brunt of numerous challenges stemming from the adverse impacts of climate change. In this critical context, FRD is steadfastly committed to its mission of bolstering the resilience of vulnerable communities against the onslaught of shifting climatic patterns.

Access to quality health services is a fundamental human right, a belief FRD has held since its inception. In the health sector, FRD has partnered with organizations like UNHCR, UNFP, USAID's NPI-Expand Program, and others to enhance the delivery of health services. This has been achieved through capacity-building support, providing essential health facilities, expanding outreach, and fostering trust between service providers and users.
The Demography of Paksitan and the Resultant youth bulge is both a blessing as well as risk. Specifically in the context where there is a big diversity in terms of ethnicities, Languages, Religions and even sects, the youth bulge needs to be taken care of in a delicate manner.
FRD strives to engage the youth in the designing and implementations of its different programs, and specifically has focused on designing and implementing programs on Youth engagement in peace building, and Social cohesion.
FRD has been actively involved in the shelter sector across various contexts, including natural and man-made disasters, camp settings, hosting communities, and situations involving returnees and recovery. At the camp level, FRD takes on responsibilities ranging from camp design and establishment to the eventual decommissioning of camps and returning the land to its rightful owners. rehabilitating Situation.

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) stand as foundational areas for FRD interventions. Collaborating with UNICEF, UNHCR, KP Local Government and Rural Development Department, Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) managed by UNOCHA, FATA Capacity Building Project, and World Food Program, FRD has effectively executed multiple WASH projects.
Sustainable Development Goal 16 is about promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. People everywhere should be free of fear from all forms of violence and feel safe as they go about their lives whatever their background is.
FRD has been working on improving access to justice and Rule of law in those areas where the majority of the population is poor.
Sustainable Development Goal 4.3 and 4.4 plans for skill development, SDG 8 on decent work and sustainable Economic growth and SDGs 12 on sustainable Production and consumption requires all the development practitioners to align their programs, in this connection different Programs of FRD do focus on building the skills of the people generally and women particularly to not just have a decent work for themselves but also contribute to achievement of these other SDGs.
As FRD operates in Pakistan which is exposed to multiple hazards and as an organization with strong commitments for Sendai Framework on DRR and National Framework of Pakistan on Disaster Risk reduction, the DRR is cross cutting theme of FRD.
The Focus of FRD in DRR is not just structural, but non structural activities, skills, advocacy, and influencing the Attitudes and behaviors of people exposed to potential risks is also part of our programs.
