Shelter Repair kit assistance for the returnee IDPs of South Waziristan Agency Underway

FRD in partnership with UNHCR is facilitating 600 returnee IDPs families in south Waziristan Agency in reconstruction of their houses.

The long standing conflict situation in South Waziristan Agency of FATA had caused displacement of thousands of families from their houses. As the houses are mostly made up of mud in the area which require regular repair and maintenance. While these people stayed away from their houses there was no one to take care of the houses. As a result the houses could not withstand the environmental impacts and suffered heavy damages. The active conflict in the area also contributed to damages of the houses.

In the start of May 2011 when government declared more areas as safe for return, FRD with support of UNHCR took responsibility of providing shelter repair kit assistance to 600 families. The shelter repair kit includes steel girders, T- Irons and Brick tiles (Roofing material) one window and one door. Each family who get the support is also provided with PKR 8500/ as cash for work. To support the construction process each village is provided with village tool kit which include the tools necessary in the construction process in locality.

Mr. Faiz Mohammad Wazir who is working as project coordinator for the response said "Till date 540 families have received the package and the remaining families will receive the package very soon."
