Shelter Repair Kit assistance started for returnees of conflict affected area of Mohmand Agency. FRD with support of UN agencies for refugees (UNHCR) has started provision of shelter repair kits to the returnees inside Mohmand Agency. Working area of FRD, Tehsil Safi has experienced the longest conflict situation and hence the damages in shelter and community infrastructure are the greatest. Among the non governmental organizations working in the area FRD is among the very few organizations who have opted for working for the benefit of the extremely suffered portion of the IDPs.
The project will assist 500 families who have lost their houses due to conflict or lack of maintenance due to displacement. In the initial phase beneficiaries will be identified in a participatory manner where the local communities will help in identification of the most needy families. FRD teams are verifying the beneficiaries identified by the communities through door to door assessments.
Every verified family will receive roofing material for one room consisting of steel girders, T irons, brick tiles and polythene sheet, a set of one door and window, steel girders for lintel beam and one commonly used toolkit. The toolkit will consist of two shovels, one pick axe, one medium size hammer and two mud/mortar carrying pans (Tasla/tatkay).
Majority of the staff deployed are local people and people from other areas of FATA, so the project is not only going to provide permanent shelter solution to the conflict affected population, but is also supporting educated youth of FATA with Jobs inside FATA.
The project will be implemented through close coordination with crisis affected communities, government line agencies and FDMA. Involvement of the communities in the identification and verification of the beneficiaries is expected to bring transparency in the process and improve humanitarian accountability in the project.
