Return of IDPs from Nahqi Camp in Mohmand Completed

After the government has declared majority of the areas in Mohmand safe for return, IDPs have started returning. The 1st return from Nahqi IDPs camp in this phase of return took place on 11th of October 2011. For the last many days the IDPs inside the camp and outside the camp were filling voluntary return forms (VRFs).

To facilitate IDPs in the process of return FRD team was assigned the task of distributing the return NFIs set of UNHCR among the IDPs. Till date a total of 2,859 families have received the return NFIs package. These receiving families include both off camp and in camp IDPs. Similarly free transportation was Managed by FDMA for returning IDPs. Other UN agencies and the government departments also played a role in facilitating the return of the IDPs.

With the current returns the IDPs camp at Nahqi will virtually close down as no IDP family has yet opted for living in the camp and all the IDPs families are back to their homes.

The members of IDPs committees from various locations were very happy with the return, but expressed their concerns about the infrastructure damages in their areas of origin. They appealed the government, UN agencies and other humanitarian agencies to support them in the rehabilitation of their areas infrastructure of houses, schools, health facilities, roads, drinking water and livelihoods.
