FRD-MSP organized Hand Washing activities in 17 Schools of Town 1 Peshawar

15th Octobers is the day, celebrated as Global Hand Washing Day throughout the world. The basic aim of the day is to design, test and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times, as it is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Keeping in view the importance of Global hand washing day, FRD in collaboration with MSP not only celebrated GHD on 15th October but also dedicated the entire month of October to hand washing activities in 17 schools of Town-1 Peshawar.

15th Octobers is the day which is celebrated as Global Hand Washing Day throughout the world. The basic aim of the day is to design, test and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times. Hand washing, when done correctly, is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Good hand washing technique is easy to learn and can significantly reduce the spread of infectious diseases in both children and adults.

MSP and FRD management decided to grab this day as an opportunity and planned celebrating hand washing day in 17 schools started from 10 October to 20th October. Following objectives were set by the management for observing Hand Washing Day in schools.

·         Increase awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing with soap and water at critical timings.

·         Make the children aware that the simple act of hand washing can reduce the spread of diseases such as diarrhea and respiratory infections.

In this regard different hand washing activities were carried out. In some school a specialist of public health Dr.Attiq was invited where he made representation on improved health and hygiene with special emphasis on importance of hand washing with soap at critical timings. He urged the students and teachers to make it habit to wash hands with soap as this is the most effective and inexpensive way to combat diarrhea and respiratory infections.. The intervention of hand washing with soap is more effective than any vaccines and medicines to save lives and cut off deaths due to diarrhea.

Hygiene promoters of FRD demonstrated hand washing with soap before the students. They were followed by some students while demonstrating hand washing before their peers. It also created a fun and enjoyments and left a very positive impact on the students as they would adopt hand washing as a habit.

The schools managements welcomed FRD and MSP team into their schools and appreciated their efforts. They expressed commitments that they would give due importance to hand washing similar to any academic activity.
